Why Pray if God Knows Everything?
2 Comments Published March 31st, 2006 in Hearing the Word, Spiritual DisciplinesGood question!
I’d be lying if I said I’ve never asked this before. Sometimes it just seems to be a waste of time praying if God has already made up his mind about what is going to happen. Greg had the task of following his first installment on prayer with trying to answer this perplexing question…
Here’s […]
Why should we pray?
0 Comments Published March 21st, 2006 in Hearing the Word, Spiritual DisciplinesGreg shared with us on Sunday night the first part of an unexpected double-header in our series on prayer. The question this time was “Why should we pray?”.
Mel Gibson’s portrayal of an ex-clergyman in the movie “Signs” at one point cried, “I am not wasting another minute of my life by praying.” His wife had […]
Being school holidays, I managed to make it to ‘most’ of the morning service this week. Lynton Allan was the special guest - a man gifted in drawing/painting and telling stories in a way that points us to the realities of God and faith.
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Lynton […]
On Sunday night we began an occasional series (ie on and off all year) on the spiritual disciplines or spiritual exercises. These disciplines are not secret, magical acts that a Christian can use to get closer to God, but instead a series of things we can do that put us in the best possible place […]
Baptisms are my favourite when it comes to the things we do when we gather. I love hearing the stories of those that are about to ‘take the plunge’. I love to hear how God’s story has taken hold of them. And I love to hear how the two stories - God’s and theirs - […]

Here’s the wedding sermon that I shared during the ceremony.

We commissioned our elected leaders, ministry leaders and interns in their responsibilities for the coming 12 months.
We then looked at the story of Elijah from the Old Testament - the one where he challenges the prophets of Baal to a contest, wins via […]
Questions God Asks: Where is Your Brother?
1 Comment Published January 17th, 2006 in Hearing the WordWe looked at the story of Cain and Abel on Sunday night, and in particular, the question God asks Cain after the murder - “Where is Your Brother?”
Cain was jealous that God was looking with favour on the offerings that Abel was bringing, but receiving no such favour himself. Somehow he missed the point that […]
On Sunday night we started a short series on the questions God asks people in the Bible.
The first occurs as Adam and Eve are living happily in the Garden of Eden and then decide to eat the fruit they weren’t supposed to. Realising they were in the nuddy, they made some fig leaf clothes, […]
On Sunday morning I spoke on a theme that seems to have come up for me often at this time of year - the pain of Christmas. Of course, it is a time for celebration and joy, but for many of us it is a time of grief and loss. As we reflect on the […]
