ignore the description, it's the cartoon that's relevant to "having work everywhere"

c'mon Matt, I'm hanging out for the sermon notes of 'subversive love'...

I have a laptop.

Pros:
* I can work anywhere in the house- where the heat is, or away from my own mess...
* I can take it to uni, I can work on the bus, etc.
* work where the coffee is
Cons:
* power. It's not so portable when you have to lug around the power brick, and find somewhere to leash yourself to.
* (from the above) heavy. I don't like lugging my machine around, it in fact ties me down.
* concern about security- I can't leave it anywhere to get relief from the heaviness.
* working in front of the TV is distracting. Working around people that don't understand that you are working (in your case, two playful sons) is nigh impossible.

Other Thoughts: Costs- obviously laptops are expensive, but there is also the carry case, a new wireless modem so you can actually enjoy the portability, etc.
Note Taking: I much much prefer traditional paper pen notes- do you?

My frankenmac is so because it gets abused- it does well, but it crackles a bit, and various things don't work because of the rough treatment.

It sounds like I am anti-laptop, but I am glad I have it- it makes things so much easier sometimes. If you truly would benefit from it (I hesitate to use the word 'need' as the only true needs are God, community, bread and water) Then go for it. However, you do need to think about it.

It's something to prayerfully consider- sometimes it's needed, sometimes not. I have mine because my parents realized they didn't need it in their ministry, and I really needed (benefited from) the portability, allowing me to work on an essay remotely, saving much time.

long rambling comment, sorry. I'll just get on with it and post, eh?

Now Rev - you you should consider a laptop mate - at least in boring classes you can play games and write sermons while people think you're taking notes. Or - possibly of more relevance to you, you can sleep behind the screen so people don't know you are!
