Urban Summer

We’re running a community service/evangelism project over January in our community. Here’s the blurb from the intial round of advertising they we’re doing:

Urban Summer will run from Saturday 13th January to Sunday 21st January 2007.

The aim of the event will be to serve our community in practical ways, run programs that will help build a stronger community and in the process of doing so share our faith.

And there’s a good chance we’ll do a whole lot of growing too!

Team meetings, prayer and devotions will happen in the morning of each day, with the service projects and some programs happening in the afternoon. A café and an evening program will happen at night.

Please sign up for as much as you can and let us know what sort of things you would like to do. If you’re happy to be involved anywhere, doing anything – then say that too!

At this point we need helpers for:

Cartoon drawing classes for primary school kids (just one helper required)
Holiday stuff for kids (games and activities)
Work team for Mullauna College
Volunteer Team for Eastern Emergency Relief
Gardening and maintenance team
Catering Team to cook food
Café team to serve/clean up etc
Events team for the evening program (Karoke, Box War etc)
Prayer team to be praying for the entire time

If you’re part of my church and haven’t yet signed up, make sure you leave your details on the sign up sheets. If you’re not part of MBC, but think you’d like to be part of it, send me an email and we’ll work something out. I’ll probably need some sort of reference from your pastor or something, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

And, if you’re from interstate and want to take a road trip to Melbourne to do some local mission stuff, then let me know. We should be able to arrange some accomodation for you and there will be plenty of stuff to be involved in.

If you can’t be involved physically, please be praying. We need heaps of that…I’ll be updating things here as the week unfolds.

Thats a pretty sweet idea Matt, sounds awesome! I’ve been tossing up doing something similar with Youth Vision in place of one of the camps we’re changing around, will definitely talk more with ya about it in the future.

Thanks for the plug, Matt! I’m really excited about Urban Summer- we need more people though. And not just young people (though you are MOST welcome!)- we need everyone to be involved.
