This article by Danny Katz appears in the Age today. A quote:

No, now Religious Education is a serious recruiting business, and the Christian Class is attracting children of all faiths, because they all get a free Freddo Frog at the end of the lesson — it’s like the mass conversions of the Middle Ages, but done with milk chocolate and peppermint-cream.

I think it’s a pretty good article actually. While I’m a fan of the return of christianity, spirituality, and morality to our society, it is going to mean we are under more scrutiny than we have been in the past.

Today’s Christianity is open and out there. It’s not uncool like it once was. For the youth of today, morality and belief are in. Jesus isnt an uncool old dude in a beard and sandals. Faith is ok. Institutions, however, are sdtill somethins to be wary of.

We used to be able to get away with freddo bribery with only the occasional call of ‘blackmail’. I have to admit that a lot of the subversive behaviour from the church has been quite intentional, a ‘mission impossible’ style evangelism.

Now, we have a chance, to really live out the teachings of Jesus better than ever before. Society WANTS us to feed the hungry, serve the poor, care for the sick. We’ve got a chance to get out there, to live love and serve, to shine our light. It won’t be hard for us to stuff it up though - if we start judging, enforcing rules on society, showing un-love.

Jesus is alive, God has reentered the minds and hearts of people. Viva le revival!

I agree, G, there have never been times like these before. You aren’t going to be shipped of to a concentration camp for sheltering Jews, you aren’t going to be shot. Physically, so much more is possible. People want to do the right thing, we want morals taught in our schools.

Faith is cool- as long as you keep it to yourself and don’t try to influence others. (*cough* secularism is cool, as long as you don’t enforce it on others? *cough*)

God is dead er, science appears to have miscalculated…

    “God is dead” - Nietzsche

    “Nietzsche is dead” - God

of course, Nietzsche spoke about the fact that spirituality was dead amongst the people. In seeing no sign of God living in people, he concluded that God could not exist. Science only works in what cannot be disproved. We need to give proof that God is alive, and show that science to be wrong.
