More on Excellence
Published by Matt Glover October 5th, 2006 in Hearing the Word, Misc StuffMate! It’s busy at the moment, so my apologies for the lack of stuff on the blog…not particulalry excellent but that’s the way it is!
Dan had his final night with us last Sunday and gave the second part of his excellence series. This was more of a ‘how to’ type message and regardless of how you feel about that sort of thing, there’s was plenty to think about.
The prophet Daniel was Dan’s focal point - kind of appropriate in a strange sort of way! Daniel (the prophet) was well regarded in the King’s palace because of the life of excellence he was living. So much so that he was elevated to a much higher level than any of the native Babylonians. Daniel had been given a gift, and rather than live a life of mediocrity, he chose to be everything that God intended him to be, even though he was a captive.
For us to have the same sort of excellence Daniel displayed, we need to know God in the same way. Daniel knew God intimately and made it a point of praying often and maintaining a close relationship to God. He didn’t rest on his reputation or experiences of God that he had in the past, but made his relationship a real, living and growing thing. Because of that, he reflected God in a powerful way, and like we said last time, God is a God of excellence.
The message was clear - stay connected to God to live a life of excellence. But the message couldn’t helped but be overshadowed by the excitement and sadness of saying farewell to Dan. After he has spoken we commissioned him for the next stage of the journey and were fortunate to have the Senior Pastor from his new church join us in praying for him.
My prayer is that Dan’s message is embodied in Dan himself and that he, along with the young people of his ministry, be agents of transformation in their community.
Go well Dan!
