Another spam attack overnight crippled my blog. I think I’ve lost a few comments along the way, so my apologies if you’ve taken the time to write something and it’s gone.
Hey Matt, yeah, I noticed that your blog was down, can you have letter verification on your blog like Alison’s? That should kill the Spam. Let me know if that works.
Stuffed if I know if I can do letter verification. Probably a plug-in for it somehwhere…
The Spam Karma plug-in is actually working like it should be. No spam comments are being posted, but the problem came about because it was only deleting the comments from the “memory” every twelve hours. There was literally thousands of spam comments that were all stored in the log file and, well, you know the rest.
So now it’s se to purge the log file every twelve minutes. So far so good!
the thing with a “catchpa” (number/word verification) is that it isn’t very friendly to people who aren’t tech inclined. Since Matt is trying to get people from church to be involved in the comments, a catchpa isn’t really a good solution.
Glad to see you worked it out- purge purge purge!
SPAM tastes good with Honey. Unfortunately, after eating that stuff, you do feel inclined to purge. I wonder if the morons that send all this junk mail EVER get responses. Surely the unwashed miscreants of our world arent that stupid? oh, perhaps New Zealanders.
Ok Alison, good point… I kinda just take “catchpa” as normal, like on your blog, and I have it on mine, but nice to see Matt got it sorted!! These mass Spam things remind me of DoS attacks… What do you think Alison?
