Can't believe I've overlooked this post. Matt, this is truly and utterly disgraceful... don't you just hate it when these politicians make these decisions sitting in their nice cozy little offices without going out and looking for themselves? There are a lot more constructive ways to solve this "problem" than to simply make helping them out illegal. You also have to think... even from their point of view, what would cost more? Providing more facilities to assist the homeless, or policing these laws? Seems kinda silly to me. I did some work with a soup kitchen once with my old small group at Boronia, and it was a great experience. I highly doubt these politicians have even done that. Keep the charity I say, legal or not.

Hey matt this is the third time im righting this comment the last one got called spam aswell!! GRRRR!!
and i typed alot too!! and the 6th time im trying to post it!

this is so wrong! it is so sad! i mean didnt God teach us to be compasstionate and help those we see in need?! the first
thing that came to mind when i read this article was the signs u see at the zoo that say 'please dont feed the animals'.
it is upsetting that the council is not bothered by treating the homeless like animals. this is worrying!!

I also think that targetting the mobile soup kitchens is not a good idea! i mean in the heat dehydration sets in and when
someone doesnt get food for a long while starvation sets in too. these to factors arent gonna be pretty bad when combined!!
so the question really is... would the people and council prefer to have living homeless people in the park, or dead, starved
to death homeless people in their park? personally i would prefer the first and im sure they would too! and like alison said
"You can’t fine people for charity." how r they getting away with this?!

i just hope that there are more people like Gail Sacco out there! she is still gonna coninue her work! in her words...
"My plan is to do anything I feel is needed to keep these people alive." i just hope and pray that there are other people
out there willing to help regardless of the fine and possible persecution from their neighbours!

all in all this is disgraceful and sad...

These people need to find shelter as well, feeding them is good, but it needs to be a complete "solution" to this problem.

However, cutting their food and hoping they move on is shortsighted- I bet they move on to crime in order to get something to eat or whatever.

A crime to help people? That law is wrong. You can't fine people for charity.
