I was on the way home from college today and thought I’d drop into the local hospital to see two of our folk who had been unwell. One is 99 years old and broke her hip in a fall about a week ago, the other was having some trouble with her diabetes and related issues.

Anyway, I turn up at the hospital and find that their rooms at at opposite ends of the place. No big deal, but I was kind of hoping that they were close together - nothing but laziness! I flip a coin and decide to go and visit the 99 year old first.

As I came into her room, the place was very calm. There was none of the noise from tv’s or radios that was coming from the surrounding rooms, nor were the other patients doing anything other than sitting repsectfully on their beds, pretending not to be watching what was happening on the other side of the room.  Over in the corner, I saw my dear old friend, the other lady I had come to see, plus another friend from church all sitting in a circle on the bed, holding hands and praying. Praying for the doctors, the nurses, the other patients and their families, and whoever else they could think of.

It was a nice moment.

I stood there respectfully, praying silently with them, and remembered that Jesus was right there with them too. I don’t know what the other patients thought, but the joy and laughter on the faces of these three afterwards, despite the sickness and pain they are in, must surely have raised an eyebrow or two. I’m glad I was there to see it!

Flipping a coin? doesnt that go close to gambling?

Still, though, what a great story. To see ‘church’ existing anywhere, wherever two or three are gathered in His name. I hope not only do they raise eyebrows, but spirits and faith as well.

It wasn’t gambling until I put the coin in a poker maching later on….:)
