Lot’s happened on Saturday. Here’s a run down…

Early Morning Session

Warick Vincent spoke on “Jesus the leader.” I can’t tell you how glad I was to see that this topic was to be presented. So often the emerging.misisonal movement says it is Jesus based but then never takes the time to examine who he is, what he did and how he did it. So it was refreshing to start Saturday with some time put Jesus first and foremost.

The challenge for me was to speak the truth in grace.

Mid Morning Session

A couple of girls who have led the way in new expressions of mission shared their stories. Simply inspiring is the only thing I can say.

Anne Wilkinson-Hayes shared a bit of her story from over twenty years of being a woman in leadership of both tradtional and emerging church.

Sally Quinn from GreenCollect told of her journey, and amazing sacrifice, of leading the way in environmental mission. How many can say they have sacrificed so much that a homeless person had to lend them money for lunch?!

Afternoon Session

Paul Steele from Catalyst inovations spoke on innovation and risk taking. I’ll do a seperate post on this one. Lot’s of business stuff that I haven’t really thought of before.

Evening Session

John Jenson, or the Rev to most, took the evening session and again, focussed entirely on Jesus. The highlight for me was firstly his passion when he spoke of Jesus - his eyes light up and his face almost glows. An excited child in the body of a bull-fighting cage-fighter. Secondly was the reminder to lead as servants. I saw the bowls and jugs of water lined up and dreaded the thought of an impending foot washing, but instead we did a hand-washing ritual that was very powerful. Foot washing to me is just plain gross, but letting another wash my hands was a wierd sensation. Lots of emotions and dynamics come into play. I had no problem washing anothers hands, but flinched when another washed my hands. I tend to avoid others touching me anyway, but it was so humbling that it was almost painful.

I’ll get the Rev back for that one day!
