Cartoon Reflection: Where Did God Go?
Published by Matt Glover November 30th, 2005 in Cartoons & Cartoonists, Questions of FaithI’ve started preparing a message for Sunday week and I’m looking at the “Parable of the Tenants” in Matt 21:33-46. I’ve usually assumed that the vineyard owner in the parable represented God, but verse 33 has me a little perplexed…
There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey.
My question - if the landowner is supposed to be God, where the heck did he go?!

Like the cartoon!
I figured the vinyard was the earth- creation is when he plants the grapes etc.
then, Genesis 3 etc and he goes away- it says he liked walking in the garden of eden, but the Bible doesn’t mention him strolling after Adam and Eve got kicked out of Eden. Then he sends prophets etc to talk to the farmers (us) and finally his son.
I Love that parable… wish I could be there to hear it!
Thanks for your thoughts Alison. I’m thinking that I’ll make this message soooooo long, that you’ll probably make it here before it’s finished!
Just kidding if anybody from MBC is reading this…
